Question for the day: What does the word "incarnation" mean?

What can we pray with YOU about today?

Good morning,

This is just a reminder that every day, while we are studying God’s Word to add to our website, someone from our ministry, Dysmas Conduit, is holding you up before the Lord in prayer. May He greatly bless you today as you pursue His will and He is glorified through you.

God’s blessings, our love,

CURRENT PRAYER REQUESTS:

Please pray for Mike and Sandy Brommer as they spread the Lord’s Seed and witness to His glory while on the road today. Please pray also that the Lord will lead them to Kingdom-profitable loads to carry, and that He grants them safe passage today.

Sandy Brommer Just heard from my sister that a friend's grandchild has been hospitalized with the swine flu. The child is less that a year old! Please pray--she didn't say that baby's name, but He'll know who we're talking about!

Also, please pray for 6-week-old David Pearson. He returned to the hospital after a brief home-coming due to further medical issues.

Please continue to pray for Billy Hamburg. He had surgery Nov 19th and 2 more tumors were found, He is in a lot of pain. Please pray for the Lord’s Hand to help him overcome his anxiety as well as the cancer.

Good Morning, Church!

Pastor Greg Finke

"The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.

We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only [Jesus],

who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only [Jesus],

who is at the Father's side, has made Him known."

John 1:14 & 18,

Yesterday we learned that Jesus is the incarnation of God. We also talked about that in worship Sunday. If you have not yet caught the message you can click here.

What does the word "incarnation" mean? It means "to be made flesh" or "to be given bodily form." So when we say Jesus is God incarnate or Jesus is the incarnation of God we are saying Jesus is God made flesh or Jesus is God in bodily form. Or to put it yet another way Jesus is God with skin on.

Now, because Jesus is the incarnation of God, He lived incarnationally.

How did Jesus live incarnationally? "The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us." First of all, He was actually among people, dwelling with people, doing life with people. He had friendships with people. And then He lived in such a way as to make God known to those people. He lived in such a way that when people got to know Jesus they got to know God's grace, they got to know God's truth; they got to find out about God's redemption.

Now, here's the key to Jesus' incarnational living: We don't have to over-think it. It isn't harder than we thought it's easier. It isn't more complicated than we thought it's simpler. It isn't something you have to be God-made-flesh to do.

Do you know what Jesus' secret weapon was for incarnational living? He knew how to hang out with people. He knew how to BE with people. Read the Gospels. Watch what Jesus is doing. Look how many times you find Jesus hanging out with people and then as Jesus is with them, among them, eating with them, listening to them, talking with them, He is able to make known the Good News of the Kingdom of God to them.

Let's be clear: Jesus' goal wasn't just to hang out with people. Jesus' goal was to redeem people. But hanging out with people was the means to His greater end. Hanging out with people gained Him one opportunity after another to make God known to people, to help people experience the redemptive power of God's grace and truth. But it started with hanging out. It's called "Incarnational Living."

Now, here's what's equally important to the redemptive mission of God in the world. Not only that Jesus was God-incarnate and that He then lived incarnationally to make God known to people, BUT we (you and me) are now the incarnation of Jesus to the world.

Huh?? Yep. We will talk more about that tomorrow. But for today, live in the wonderful reality that Jesus is with you and ready to hang out with you so that you will know His Father's grace and truth firsthand.

Be wise and be Church!

Dr. David Jeremiah

Trust and Obey

Have you ever seen a military group being trained?

The commanding officer gives an order, and the soldiers immediately obey. Can you imagine what would happen if a few of the men

decided they didn't really feel like following orders?

Obedience is a crucial aspect of the military.

Orders must be executed immediately to ensure

the safety of the soldiers and to properly execute the mission.

In much the same way, we are soldiers for Christ.

And Dr. Jeremiah wants to remind us

of the importance of our obedience to Him.

  1. Harrison will be facing a very, very severe chemo regimine. The chemo treatment you described is what I had with Burkitt's Lymphoma in 2007, along with a bone marrow stem cell transplant. The chemo regimine required for this is the strongest possible without killing the patient. I've survived and am doing very well. I'll pray for Harrison and please know that he needs everyone to be there for him!
